During restoration of Colin McCahon's 1947 painting Nelson Landscape from Queen's Drive, currently held in the BNZ art collection, Wellington paper conservator Louise Newdick spotted a note scrawled on its back while carefully removing the cardboard backing.
"Dear B & N, this is a present for the new house and also for Helen from us,"
a portion of the note reads.
